Magic vs Knicks game CANCELLED: When asbestos attacks!
Here we go again… Tonight’s matchup between the Orlando Magic and New York Knicks has officially been cancelled due to a cleaning malfunction gone awry. Information released this afternoon by Madison Square Garden stated the following:
Following last night’s Rangers game, during overnight maintenance of Madison Square Garden, which included cleaning asbestos-related materials in the attic above the ceiling, some debris fell into the Arena.
Out of an abundance of caution, and after consulting with the NBA, we are postponing tonight’s Knicks v. Magic game. We will be working with the city and independent experts, ATC Associates and GCI Environmental Advisory, to evaluate and determine the most appropriate course of action. As the safety of our customers and employees are our top priority, we will not reopen the Garden until we are absolutely assured the Arena is safe.
This incident is virtually a repeat of what happened before the final preseason game in Tampa between the Magic and the Heat where a faulty cleaning agent was used that resulted in an unsafe playing surface and ultimately the cancellation of the game. The Magic and Knicks game has yet to be rescheduled. The Knicks game tonight is the first of two back-to-back games for the Magic this week and while not playing certainly helps in that regard, traveling to New York and back for nothing certainly does not help. Could this entire thing have possibly been cooked up by Timberwolves owner David Kahn? Is he even intelligent enough to have concocted such a plan?
The next game for the Magic is now Wednesday night at 7PM against the Darko Milicic led Minnesota Timberwolves in the brand new Amway Center. The game will be televised on FSN Florida.
