Dwight Howard recruiting Chauncey Billups to Orlando?

2011 December 12

UPDATED 6:47PM – Dear everyone that got their hopes up: JUST KIDDING!

Donald Sterling decided he didn’t appreciate David Stern taking Chris Paul away from him today so he decided to ruin everyone else’s fun and claimed Chauncey Billups off waivers tonight. Chauncey can not be traded until July 1st, so he is a Clipper for good. Best of luck with the knees Mr Big Shot!

Marc Stein of ESPN is reporting via Twitter that one of the guys that Dwight Howard has on his “list” is Chauncey Billups and that Dwight is actively recruiting him to come to Orlando once he clears waivers.

This is the same Chauncey Billups that went crazy and threatened to retire if anyone picked him up earlier this week after getting amnestied from the Knicks.  The 35 year old Billups averaged roughly 17 ppg last season between Denver and New York.

Billups doesn’t offer much upgrade, if any, over Jameer Nelson except for in size, physicality and of course the misnomer that he hits “big shots”.  If true, this sure can’t be positive for Jameer who is very close with Dwight off the court.

The Miami Heat were considered the front runners for Billups’ service after his initial amnesty tirade.

ESPN is also running a story saying that Dwight may be having a change of heart.  I encourage you to read it, but only with the understanding that the quotes used in the article are VERY selective.

Could Chauncey Billups and Glen Davis really be the two players to change Dwight’s mind?
