New season, same story. Magic lose to Hawks
It wasn’t long ago that the Orlando Magic controlled the Atlanta Hawks in every fashion. During the 2008-09 and 09-10 seasons, the Magic won 10 of 12 against the Hawks, including the 4 game playoff sweep of Atlanta in the 2010 second round.
With tonight’s 89-87 Atlanta victory, the Magic have now LOST 8 of the last 11 games against the Hawks, including last season’s embarrassing first round playoff ouster.
The times they are a changin’.
Orlando trailed tonight 78-70 with 1:45 remaining in the 4th quarter before they finally showed signs of life. An 8-0 run sparked by Jameer Nelson’s aggression would be capped by a Dwight Howard put back dunk with 1.3 seconds left to force overtime.
Orlando wasn’t able to fully carry over their momentum into the overtime period and wasted possessions and two missed three pointers by Jason Richardson and Jameer Nelson as time expired would spell the loss.
If we have learned anything this season it’s that fans can not overreact to a single game. Some guys played OK tonight (Dwight and Ryan) and some guys didn’t (Turk, Turk and Turk), but that isn’t really that relevant. So let me spare you from that. Magic fans, don’t overreact to the Magic struggles tonight, instead, feel free to rightfully overreact to the Magic’s complete inability to compete against a barely above average Atlanta Hawks team.
The Magic get a chance to bounce back tomorrow night when they face off against the Bucks in Milwaukee. The tip is set for 9pm EST.
