The Orlando Magic have waived Von Wafer

The Orlando Magic announced this morning that they have waived Von Wafer.

Wafer appeared in 33 games (one start) with Orlando this season, averaging 5.9 ppg. and 1.4 rpg. in 14.2 minpg.  He also played in one playoff game, tallying six points and one rebound. Fans grew quickly to admire Von as he was often the only player on the team that showed the spark necessary and the ability to initiate his own offense. However his lack of defense put him into Stan Van Gundy’s doghouse and he had trouble getting minutes ahead of Jason Richardson and J.J. Redick.

Wafer was originally signed to a 3-year deal and acquired in a sign-and-trade with the Boston Celtics. The final two years of the deal were not guaranteed. It was my understanding that when he signed with the team, there was a mutual agreement that he would be waived after the season and have the chance to pursue a better deal via free agency. Wafer would have been set to make ~$1.2M next season.
