Jameer Nelson Player Option Decision Extended
Jameer Nelson’s decision on whether to exercise his 2012-2013 player option was coming up quickly. At one point it was believed that the decision was to be made one week after the end of the season. Upon actually reading the contract, all parties learned that he had until June 15th to make the decision. With Stan Van Gundy and Otis Smith exiting and nobody yet entering in their place, it made it very difficult for Jameer to make his decision.
Well, today that changed again:
The @NBA has approved an amendment to @JameerNelson‘s contract, delaying the potential opt out date from June 15 to June 29.

With the future of the organization still in flux and awaiting the hires of a GM and coach, both the Magic and Jameer Nelson mutually agreed to extend the date to June 29th. The NBA Draft takes place on June 28th.
Regardless of the extension, the April report by Andew Melnick and then confirmed by MBO, is still fully believed to be in effect. Barring Dwight Howard suddenly buying in and commiting long term to Orlando, Jameer will still be opting out and searching for the best deal. Note: the best deal does not necessarily mean best money… it means best situation.
