Josh Robbins of the Orlando Sentinel has released the newest batch of coaching candidates and reports that the team will conduct interviews over the next seven days.
“The Orlando Magic plan to interview Michael Malone, Brian Shaw, Quin Snyder and Jacque Vaughn for their head-coaching vacancy, the Orlando Sentinel has learned from league sources.” -Orlando Sentinel
Malone and Shaw have been rumored to be the front runners for the position since the day that Stan Van Gundy was fired and both were on the rumored coaching wish list of Dwight Howard. The Magic have indicated they are in no hurry to trade Dwight Howard and at this point, the team will likely wait until the hiring of a new coach to see if Howard could potentially be swayed into staying.
Malone comes from Golden State and was recently voted as the top assistant coach in the league by his peers. Shaw is the lead assistant for the Indiana Pacers and a former Magic player. Quin Snyder was on the Lakers bench last season and was a recent finalist for the Bobcats job, but doesn’t exactly seem to fit the DeVos set of family values after leaving Mizzou in an ugly way. Vaughn was an assistant coach the last two seasons with the Spurs.
