J.J. and Chelsea Redick Donate $25K to Local Charity for Atypical Children – Want Your Help For Next Donation!

J.J. and Chelsea Redick, Bo Outlaw and Stuff present a check for $25,000 to the Russell Home

Magic guard J.J. Redick  and his wife Chelsea continued their off-season of giving back by presenting the Russell Home with a check for $25,000 on Wednesday.

Redick’s donation to the Russell Home is part of winning the 2011-12 Rich and Helen DeVos Community Enrichment Award.  Each year, the Orlando Magic honors a player who has dedicated his efforts off the court for the purpose of enhancing others’ lives at the annual Orlando Magic Youth Foundation Black Tie and Tennies Gala. In addition to receiving the award, the player is granted $50,000 from the Richard and Helen DeVos Foundation to donate to the charity of his choice.

J.J. and Chelsea will donate the other $25,000 to another organization in Central Florida and plan to involve the community in helping him choose which charity best deserves the $25,000.  The plans will be announced in the coming weeks on Redick’s re-launched J.J. Redick Foundation website.

Russell Home was the first non-profit institution in the country for brain-damaged children.  Mrs. Russell first opened her home to the first child on Nov. 13, 1951 to “see if it would work out.” Since then, the home has opened its doors to hundreds of youngsters, sometimes after hearing pleas from desperate parents, and in more than one instance, finding them just left on the doorstep.  The physical home consists of a nursery, dormitory wing, playrooms, living room areas, kitchen and large laundry room.

Dwight Howard was named co-winner along with Redick of the 2011-12 Rich & Helen DeVos Community Enrichment Award.
