Magic waive Christian Eyenga and Armon Johnson as more cuts loom!
With roster cuts looming over the 20 man roster, the Magic made their first moves today to creep closer to their league mandated maximum of 15. The team announced earlier this afternoon that they have placed both Christian Eyenga and Armon Johnson on waivers.
Johnson was never expected to make the team and was simply brought in for camp purposes to give the team an extra body. He appeared in five preseason games with Orlando, averaging 3.2 ppg., 1.6 rpg. and 1.2 apg. in 13.0 minpg. He also made a poor decision to wear the dreaded and cursed number 1 jersey.
Christian Eyenga was acquired in the Dwight Howard deal and his release comes more from a numbers game than anything else. Eyenga has a guaranteed $1.2M salary this year (so don’t cry for him too much) that will be eaten by the franchise just to get rid of him. Christian was hurt all preseason and never got a chance to prove himself. In previous stops in Cleveland and LA, he was never really able to prove himself beyond being a freakish athlete.
Orlando has until Monday at 5:00 PM to rid themselves of 3 additional players to get to the magic number 15. Chris Johnson and Justin Harper are locks to be gone with Josh McRoberts and DeQuan Jones fighting for the last spot. Expect fan favorite and Nevin Shapiro supported DeQuan Jones to ride his preseason momentum to the final roster spot.Powered by Sidelines
