Surgery to sideline Hedo Turkoglu for at least a month

by Brian Serra

The Orlando Magic have announced that Hedo Turkoglu has undergone surgery this morning to repair his fractured fifth metacarpal on his left hand. He is expected to miss a minimum of four weeks and his return will depend on how well his body responds to rehabilitation.

Obviously terrible news for Orlando to lose one of their top players and a relied upon playmaker.  Reserve forward Al Harrington is already out while he still recovers from offseason knee surgery and the remainder of the position’s depth chart is also hurt with Maurice Harkless and DeQuan Jones banged up.

Expect to see a steady rotation of  J.J. Redick, Arron Afflalo and E’Twaun Moore at the 2/3 position for the next few games until Harkless or Jones can return and provide some relief.  Jacque Vaughn will be forced to play a heavy dose of small ball unless he gets really adventurous and deploys Glen Davis or Josh McRoberts at the small forward position in spurts. Nothing is off the table at this point.
