Could Doc Rivers Stop The Eric Bledsoe Deal?
The Orlando Magic and Los Angeles Clippers continue to discuss a trade that would center around Clippers backup point guard Eric Bledsoe and Orlando shooting guard Arron Afflalo.
The deal is also rumored to include rookie power forward Andrew Nicholson and a future first round pick going from Orlando to Los Angeles while Caron Butler, who is entering the last year of his contract, would be shipped to Orlando.
Although the Clippers would like to collect more assets (to possibly go back after Boston Celtics power forward Kevin Garnett or another player), new head coach Doc Rivers could help squash a Bledsoe trade.
According to Ramona Shelburne and Marc Stein of ESPN.com, report “the long-awaited arrival of Doc Rivers as the Clippers’ new coach and senior vice president of basketball operations could push any Bledsoe trade into July — or maybe even longer — because Rivers is a well-known Bledsoe fan who has indicated he’d like to keep Bledsoe around if possible.”
Sources also tell the pair of scribes “Orlando is only one of a half-dozen teams pursuing Bledsoe after Boston was rebuffed in its attempts to acquire Bledsoe as an offshoot of the Rivers’ negotiations.”
Bledsoe is obviously a highly coveted player and the Clippers are likely simply using this report as leverage to push for more in a deal.
