Rob Hennigan Named General Manager of the Orlando Magic

Orlando Magic General Manager Rob Hennigan met with the media this afternoon and as expected, was rather mum on exactly what the team would be doing in tomorrow night’s draft. However, he did drop a couple of worthwhile nuggets to consider as the team creeps up on the 24 hour mark before they must make their selection.

It has been mentioned by several sources in the last few days that the Magic are interested in trading down out of the second spot in the draft. Hennigan confirmed those talks have been taking place and that the team has had a lot of discussion about trading the pick – as well as keeping it.

Teams have contacted the Magic from within the lottery as well as outside of it. Whether Hennigan was trying to create a better market, and increase competition, by mentioning “three to four teams” having serious offers – we’ll never know. Regardless of the absolute truth of the statement, it will likely make a positive impact towards Orlando for any discussions taking place.

Regarding a potential Eric Bledsoe deal, Hennigan did confirm that they had exploratory discussion with the Clippers but that they hadn’t spoken with L.A. for three weeks. He further added that he would be “stunned” if a trade happened tomorrow night, as had been previously reported by multiple outlets.

Hennigan did say that he believes they are 99% finished with their preparations and that despite working out many candidates from both low lottery to mid-to-late lottery, that they wouldn’t hesitate to take someone who they haven’t worked out or interviewed.

“The amount of guys we brought in is indicative of the type of draft this is” – Rob Hennigan

At this point of the process it is virtually impossible to tell what is posturing and what is truth. But I supposed that is what makes this whole guessing game so much fun, right?
