Magic select Romero Osby with 51st pick
For anyone still wide awake, the Orlando Magic didn’t make any trades despite a lot of the rumor rumblings. They took Oladipo at #2 and went with the 6’8″ forward out of Oklahoma, Romero Osby. Last I checked, he’s a “human being”, so Rob Hennigan came through on his draft prediction. The 23-year-old senior averaged 16.0 ppg, 7.0 rpg, and 1.3 apg last season. Osby is definitely not the 3-point shooting type, as he attempted just 17 threes – though made nine of them.
Romero earned 1st-Team Big 12 honors in 2012-2013. At 6’8″ (with shoes), 240 pounds Osby has the strength to play at the 4, but the lack of height puts him as an undersized power forward or possibly a large small forward. You can bet he’ll get a vast amount of work in Summer League. Osby appears to be a high leaper who actually has decent ball-handling skills for a man of his stature. Osby scored 22 points and tallied 8 rebounds in Oklahoma’s NCAA Tournament loss to San Diego State back in March.
