Arron Afflalo to compete in Three-Point Contest at All-Star Weekend

2014 February 7
by Brian Serra

He may have been snubbed from Sunday Night’s premier event, but Arron Afflalo still managed to earn a trip to New Orleans for All-Star Weekend. Afflalo will join teammate Victor Oladipo (participating in the Skills Challenge) on All-Star Saturday Night as one of eight contestants in the 2014 Foot Locker Three-Point Contest.

The eight competitors will compete in a two-round competition with each player having one minute to roll through the racks. The highest scoring East and highest scoring West players from the First Round will advance to the Championship Round. New to this year’s contest, each player will also be able to switch one of the five shooting locations to a full rack of five “money balls,” each of which will be worth two points.

Afflalo leads the Orlando Magic in scoring with 19.9 ppg. and is currently tied for eighth in the NBA in three-point field goal percentage (.427). Afflalo has led (or tied) the team in scoring a team-best 27 times, scored in double figures 45 times, had 20+ points 24 times and 30+ points four times, including a career-high 43 points on Dec. 3 at Philadelphia. Afflalo, who has connected on at least three three-pointers in 13 games this season, hit 8-of-11 attempts from long distance on Nov. 13 vs. Milwaukee and knocked down five in the third quarter, tying the franchise record for most three-pointers made in a quarter.
