Report: Orlando Magic to sign Adonis Thomas

2014 February 21
by Brian Serra

Update: Adonis Thomas has confirmed the signing of Adonis Thomas.

As the buyout is now officially finalized with Glen Davis and the team roster at just 12, it was only a matter of time before the Magic made an addition to their roster. The report out of The Commercial Appeal in Memphis is that the Orlando Magic will sign forward Adonis Thomas to a 10-day contract.

Adonis has been playing in the NBA D-League for the Springfield Armor and was ranked as the 29th top D-League prospect by the D-League Prospect Watch. Thomas is averaging 16.2 ppg and 4.2 rpg in 26 games this season. The 6’6″ Small Forward played two seasons at the University of Memphis and declared for the 2013 draft before ultimately going undrafted. Thomas played for the Atlanta Hawks in the Summer League last year, but only saw limited action throughout three games.

Coming out of high school Adonis was considered one of the top recruits in the country, holding a 5-star rating from Rivals and ranked as the 17th best player in the country. Following two pedestrian seasons he took his shot at the draft. He is a high upside player and the exact type of athlete that the Magic should be targeting on 10-day contracts moving forward. You can view his DraftExpress profile here.

Thomas is reportedly set to sign with the Magic on Monday and will join the team in Washington for their game on Tuesday.
