Orlando Magic officially sign Adonis Thomas
The Orlando Magic have officially announced the signing of forward Adonis Thomas. Thomas will be signed to a 10-day contract as of today, which will expire March 7th. The team will then decide to either sign him to a second 10-day deal or to waive him. Magic fans should think of him as a better shooting, less explosive DeQuan Jones type of player.
Adonis has been playing in the NBA D-League for the Springfield Armor and was ranked as the 29th top D-League prospect by the D-League Prospect Watch. Thomas is averaging 16.2 ppg and 4.2 rpg in 26 games this season. The 6’6″ Small Forward played two seasons at the University of Memphis and declared for the 2013 draft before ultimately going undrafted. Thomas played for the Atlanta Hawks in the Summer League last year, but only saw limited action throughout three games.
Coming out of high school Adonis was considered one of the top recruits in the country, holding a 5-star rating from Rivals and ranked as the 17th best player in the country. Following two pedestrian seasons at Memphis he took his shot at the draft. He’s a high upside player and the exact type of athlete that the Magic should be targeting on 10-day contracts moving forward. You can view his DraftExpress profile here.
Thomas will be available for tonight’s game in Washington.
