Romero Osby to play for Orlando Magic at Summer League
With the 51st overall pick in the 2013 NBA Draft, the Orlando Magic selected the 6’8″ Romero Osby out of the University of Oklahoma. After a solid Summer League performance, Osby looked like a lock to make at least the initial roster after signing a training camp deal that guaranteed him $100K.
Unfortunately for Osby, the Magic reconsidered their decision and ultimately chose to keep Solomon Jones at the end of training camp and cut Osby prior to the start of the season. It now appears that Romero Osby will be returning to Orlando to put on a Magic jersey. Osby announced on Twitter last night that he would be back with the Orlando Magic for the forthcoming Orlando Pro Summer League.
Osby played in 12 games last season for the Maine Red Claws before suffering a season ending shoulder injury. He averaged 16.2 ppg and 6.4 rpg. It’s somewhat rare for a waived draft pick to return to his previous team, which certainly is a positive sign that the team believes in his future. Also: he can dunk really well.
“Proud to announce I will be back with the Orlando Magic for the Orlando NBA Summer League and hopefully further! Thankful for everyone that has supported me throughout my recover and even though I’m not 100% I’m blessed to say I’m on my way there. Also thanks to the fans of O-town for reaching out to me and supporting me even though I wasn’t with their team. See you in July O-town!” – Romero Osby full announcement via his Instagram account.
