Magic Expected to Waive or Trade Jason Maxiell
Yahoo Sports’ Marc Spears is reporting that the Orlando Magic are looking to unload big man Jason Maxiell. Barring a surprise trade, Orlando will most likely waive Maxiell by July 10th. GM Rob Hennigan continues to clear cap and roster space.
The Magic is expected to waive veteran forward Jason Maxiell if he isn’t traded in the next couple of days, a source told Yahoo.

Forward Jason Maxiell’s contract of $2.5 million next season is fully guaranteed if the Magic do not waive him on or before July 10. — Marc J. Spears (@SpearsNBAYahoo) June 30, 2014
Maxiell was signed as a free agent last July to mostly mentor Orlando’s younger big men. He’s due to make $2.5 million in 2014-2015 and must be off Orlando’s roster by July 10th, otherwise those funds are guaranteed. The 31-year-old played in 34 games this past season, starting in 13 of those contests. Jason averaged 3.2 ppg and 2.5 rpg on 44.8 FG%. Those statistics are the worst seen from the 6’7″ 260-pounder since he was a rookie with the Detroit Pistons in ’05-’06.
