Summer League Magic Player Preview: Scott Suggs
The 2014 Orlando Summer League begins Saturday. We’ll be taking a look at some of the Magic’s squad invitees. The list is subject to change, but there are currently 19 men on Orlando’s roster. You already know about Victor Oladipo, Dewayne Dedmon, and last year’s second round selection Romero Osby who is back after being cut before the ’13-’14 season began and spending time in the D-League. As well as draft pick-ups Aaron Gordon, Elfrid Payton, and Roy Devyn Marble. We’ll peek at the rest.
Who is Scott Suggs?
At 24 years old, Suggs played all four of his college seasons with the PAC-12’s Washington Huskies. Scott’s 2012-2013 senior season was by far his best, especially from a minutes perspective. In 31 games, Suggs tallied 12.2 ppg, 2.3 rpg, and 1.3 apg on 42.4 FG%, 87.1 FT%, and 38.7 3PT% at 30.8 minutes per contest.
The 6’6″ guard recently played 47 games with the NBDL’s Erie Bayhawks – the team that Orlando now has a sole affiliation with – last season, averaging 18.5 ppg, 3.8 rpg, 2.1 apg, and 1.0 spg, on 47.6 FG% and 40.3 3PT% at 36.7 minutes per contest. He’s deceptively explosive, but I don’t know if his size translates well against NBA athleticism. He’s one of 11 guards on the Magic’s roster, so he’s going to truly have to be special if he wants to see a lot of court minutes.
