Tobias Harris in South Africa for Basketball Without Borders

Orlando Magic forward Tobias Harris is in Johannesburg, South Africa this week for the NBA’s annual Basketball Without Borders event. The league’s program promotes and brings the game of basketball as well as its professional athletes to Africa’s youth. Current NBA players such as Luc Mbah A Moute, Gorgui Dieng, and Joel Embiid have been discovered as prospects because of this NBA Cares event.

Harris isn’t the only athlete there. Other known names such as Terrence Jones, Greg Monroe, Amir Johnson, and Andrei Kirilenko are also participating. It’s definitely a very humbling experience when you can give so much of your time and resources to people who have so little. Coincidentally, an earthquake hit Johannesburg on Tuesday. When Tobias has had a break from his duties, the 22-year-old has been visiting local sites such as the Apartheid Museum. This a really cool thing that ‘T12’ is getting himself involved in, and Magic fans should be proud that he’s spending his time on such a great charitable cause.
